Our History

Founded in 1990 as a volunteer effort to provide counselling services to victims of family violence and sexual abuse. At that time is registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO).

By 1996 the needs for SWAGAA services and requests for education required full-time staff.

By 1999 there was:
  • 4 permanent staff
  • 10 volunteers
  • 840 cases of abuse reported
  • only one site: Manzini
2000 was a turning point
  • Toll free line #95 installed in late 1999
  • Result: over 4000 abuse cases reported in both 2000 and 2001 (includes telephone and face to face cases)
In 2003 the head office launches it's official permanent site in Manzini
