Education and Training

Objective

The Education and Training team's main objective is to bring about positive change in behaviour and attitudes towards abuse through education, and thereby prevent and equip citizens to deal with abuse.

Activities and Services

Activities and Services

Educational programs

Conducts workshops, educational talks to community groups, educational institutions and other organisations, whether private or public.

Provides public education on abuse and prevention strategies to schools, teachers and students, police, businesses, religious groups, NGOs and any other organisations.

Training

The education team trains professional groups, i.e., police, prosecutors, nurses and other service providers in order to sensitize them on the issues of gender-based violence and to educate them on the laws which impact on women in the area of gender-based violence. This has helped in the improvement of services rendered to the public, particularly victims of violence. It has further helped in setting up a draft of standardized procedures of handling sexual offences in the country.

Awareness campaigns

SWAGAA's awareness campaigns on abuse and violence are held around Swaziland i.e., in schools, communities and the different regions in the country. These usually feature political figures such as the Prime minister in the White ribbon launch, honourable ministers in child sexual abuse campaigns as well as senators of the House of Parliament. This has had great impact on society due to the participation of the authorities. We also respond to issues that are not planned, such as a rape incident at the bus rank.

Some of the campaigns we participate in are:

  • 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence campaign

  • Father's Day campaign

  • International Women's Day

  • Valentine's Day campaign

  • White Ribbon campaign
